this year will be

It meant to be cookie but it was more like a pie. Did I do something wrong? Oh well it tasted really good so that's fine. I used mortar and pestle to make dried fruit and nuts mixture, instead of using electric one and that turned out really good. Crunchy.

Recipe is from this book.

This is actually not a vegan recipe book but i like using normal cooking books for inspiration.

And also it is not so difficult to make things vegan way at all. Eliminating things, adding something more, using substitute or make my own recipe. But recipe books always inspires me.

This book is coming with my parents in two weeks time. It is amazing how you can grow your own natural yeast at home and made, bake bread and yeast will keep growing, growing by leaving some dough for next time andby adding some flour and water. I have done growing my own yeast from organic raisins but the way I do is use them all for making one bread. This year, I really would like to make my own bread possibly one a week. So when this book arrives, I will be learning how to keep my own yeast going.

I might ask my perents to bring this book too. This is a seasonal magazine and it features mostly people living in coutry side and giving readers ideas of how they live in coutry side. Every issue also has property list for all over Japan and we dreamt a lot of buying really really old house. Actually we still do. I realised life over there we had was something we choose. Not to live in a big city. Not to rely on cars. Not to buy just about everything. But we made things instead. It was actually very inspring living home town those two years we lived there. Closest city not being really a big city but because it did not have many things, people started shops, cafes, bakery, art galleries.....and those people were happy to be there. and while we were there some of our friends moved there, wanting something different. Hopefully latest issue will be interesting one and keep us inspired. Simple life.

We are now in a big city but we hope to make things more and be a little self sufficient. Happy with less. Well books are the sourse so I might keep adding them on my list.....

i still dream of finding a property in inaka kyoto ken where i could set up a little montessori type school with a garden and a studio. for some reason, i can't fathom that in my home country. japan has a special quality that can't be found elsewhere. there's room and appreciation for simplicity. it is what we are working towards as well, though it is easy to feel discouraged in this consumer culture. anyway, thanks for the link to that magazine. i will have to find a way of getting my hands on that.

and i just spotted you from the above mentioned lass at là! what a find you are. I adore your photograph of the little cookie you made - it reminds me of the 'pillow' (that's what we called them as kids and i don't know the brand name!) biscuits in oz, you know the ones with the fruit inside? we had them alot as kids, but yours look divine, and healthy, and just scrumptious. i'd love if you shared the recipe!
